Steven Rozenski

Steven Rozenski is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Rochester's School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD from Harvard University. His research focuses on late medieval English and German literature, devotional culture, and the transmission of Continental contemplative texts across pre- and post-Reformation periods (1300–1600). Rozenski's work explores medieval authorship, aurality in Dominican mysticism, and multilingualism in German Marian poetry, among other areas. His recent projects include a book on trans-Reformation spirituality and editing Chaucer's 'The Monk's Tale' and 'The Manciple's Tale' for the Cambridge Chaucer series.

Rozenski’s research interests span Middle English devotional literature, translation studies, book history, and medieval German and Dutch literature. He has translated fifteenth-century German texts, including works by Johannes von Soest, and co-edited a meditation on the Crucifixion. His work has been supported by grants from the Fulbright Commission, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Houghton Library, and the Folger Institute.

Recent publications include Wisdom’s Journey: Continental Mysticism and Popular Devotion in England, 1350–1650 (2022) and co-edited volumes such as Mystics, Goddesses, Lovers, and Teachers: Medieval Visions and Their Legacies (2023). His scholarship bridges textual analysis, manuscript studies, and cultural history, emphasizing transnational and trans-temporal connections in medieval spirituality.
