Susan Stabile

Susan Stabile is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, specializing in Creative Writing, Material Culture Studies, and Medical Humanities. Her research explores intersections of memory, material objects, and gendered authorship, particularly in eighteenth-century American contexts. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware (1996), and earlier degrees from SUNY Binghamton.

Her work investigates transatlantic literary networks among women, medical narratives, and the cultural significance of everyday objects. Notable publications include Memory’s Daughter (2004) and award-winning creative nonfiction pieces like Mustard (2018). She has held residencies at prestigious institutions including Ragdale and Vermont Studio Center, alongside grants from Mellon Foundation and NEH.

Research interests span creative nonfiction forms, museum studies, and the material dimensions of memory. Her articles analyze topics ranging from organ transplantation ethics to early American women’s manuscript practices, demonstrating interdisciplinary engagement with history, literature, and health studies.
