Professor Susan Short is a Clinical Professor of Clinical Oncology and Neuro-Oncology at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, leading the Brain Cancer Research section at the Leeds Institute of Cancer and Pathology (LICAP). She is a consultant clinical oncologist specializing in adult primary brain tumours with active clinical and translational research programs.

Research Interests: Professor Short pioneers research in radiotherapy optimization for glioma patients, investigating radioresistance mechanisms in stem cell populations and developing biomarkers (including imaging and micro-RNAs). Her work spans radiation biology, glioma therapeutics, and evaluation of oncolytic viruses with DNA repair/autophagy inhibitors as radiation sensitizers, bridging laboratory discoveries to clinical applications.

Advising and Grants: She has supervised six PhD students and leads research funded by MRC, CRUK, The Brain Tumour Charity, BTRS, and PPR Foundation. Labs and Teams: Professor Short heads the Brain Cancer Research Group at LICAP with core members Gary Shaw, Tom Ward, Ruth Morton, Anke Bruning-Richardson, Erica Watson, and Angela Bennett. She maintains strategic collaborations with LICAP group leaders (Mavria on vasculature, Wurdak on stem cells, Stead on genomics, Cook on immunology) and international partners at The Institute of Cancer Research, University of Glasgow, Harvard, and University of Hamburg, plus EU INSERT consortium involvement in imaging techniques.
