Georgia Mavria

Dr Georgia Mavria is a Lecturer and Group Leader in the School of Medicine at the University of Leeds, leading the Signal Transduction and Tumour Microenvironment Group within the Leeds Institute of Medical Research at St James's. She holds dual affiliations with the Brain Cancer Research Group and Breast Cancer Research Group, and her work bridges oncology, vascular biology, and molecular signaling.

Her research centers on microenvironmental drivers of tumor progression, with emphasis on:

• VEGF/DOCK4 signaling in glioblastoma angiogenesis and cancer stem cell interactions
• Mechanisms of breast cancer brain metastasis via vascular routes
• Therapeutic targeting of Rac1 signaling through DOCK4 inhibition

Her lab pioneered the discovery of DOCK4 as a key regulator of blood vessel lumen formation and breast cancer metastasis, establishing its biomarker potential for bone metastasis in early-stage patients.

Dr Mavria actively contributes to academic service through:

• Organizing the Leeds Institute of Medical Research Seminar Series
• Serving on the Leeds Breast Cancer Tissue Bank Access Committee
• Acting as Cancer Biology Examiner for the Royal College of Radiologists' First FRCR Examination Board
