Susan Diab

Susan Diab is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art Critical Practice at the University of Brighton, where she has taught for 20 years. She concurrently serves as Artist-in-Residence at the Pitt Rivers Museum (Oxford), collaborating with the Medical Research Council's Brain Network Dynamics Unit and Parkinson's UK to develop wearable technologies aiding Parkinson's patients. Her practice spans sculpture, autoethnographic writing, and public engagement with museum collections.

Research interests focus on interdisciplinary art-science collaborations, autoethnography, and participatory museum practices. Her work explores how art can address healthcare challenges and democratize institutional archives. She pioneered the Fine Art Placement Scheme, embedding students in non-art university environments to foster creative problem-solving.

Her pedagogical approach emphasizes collaborative learning, having also worked in gallery education and primary/secondary schools through Creative Partnerships. In 2011, she received the University of Brighton's Award for Excellence in Facilitating Learning.

External roles include External Examiner at Staffordshire University and former Artist Advisor for ARC (Aspex Gallery), mentoring over 450 artists. She co-founded APEC Artists Studios, a cooperative workspace in Hove.
