Dr Stuart Rison is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at Queen Mary University of London's Wolfson Institute of Population Health and a General Practitioner at Hackney's Homerton Hospital. His dual role combines clinical practice with research in genomics and population health disparities. He leads the Genes & Health study, the largest community-based investigation of genetic determinants of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular traits in British South Asian populations. His research focuses on genomic variations, hypertension disparities, and fatty liver disease detection through Fib-4 score integration in diabetes care.
Education: BSc Microbiology (Imperial College), MSc Computational Biology (University of Manchester), PhD Bioinformatics (UCL), MBBS (King's College London, 2011). Clinical training completed via a Clinical Research Fellowship at Hammersmith Hospital (2018).
Research expertise spans health data analytics, primary care informatics, and translational genomics. He teaches the Health Data in Practice module for the Wellcome Trust-funded MRes/PhD program and collaborates with NIHR School for Primary Care Research. Current projects include hypertension management inequities and machine learning applications in clinical decision-making.
