Steven Sontag is the Assistant Director of the Carnegie Mellon Architecture Shop and an Adjunct Instructor at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Architecture within the College of Fine Arts. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University (2021). His professional experience includes fabrication and design of custom furniture, objects, and ice sculptures prior to his return to Pittsburgh.
His research and teaching focus on blending digital and analog fabrication techniques, with a specialization in woodworking and advanced digital fabrication. He currently teaches 48-104: Shop Skills, which introduces students to material assembly methods and shop machinery usage. Sontag actively explores the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and modern digital tools in architectural practice through his work in the Architecture Shop.
