Steven Shnyder

Dr. Steven Shnyder is a Senior Lecturer in Cancer Biology at the University of Bradford's School of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Life Sciences. With over 35 years of experience as a research scientist, including 30 years post-doctoral work and 24 years specifically in preclinical cancer pharmacology at Bradford, he has established himself as a leading expert in cancer drug development and testing.

His research interests span several critical areas in oncology, with a particular focus on identifying mechanisms of drug resistance in colorectal cancer. Dr. Shnyder has developed expertise in characterizing reticuloplasmins as anticancer drug targets, pharmacology of vascular disrupting agents, development of 3Rs methodologies, exploitation of fluorescent properties of anti-cancer therapeutics, and evaluation of the drugability of the tumour cell glycocalyx. His work bridges the gap between basic science and clinical application, with several compounds his team has screened progressing to clinical trials.

Dr. Shnyder serves as a Home Office Project and Personal Licence holder, managing both in vivo and in vitro studies at the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics (ICT). He line-manages a Research Associate focused on in vivo studies and a Research Technician specializing in in vitro screening. His leadership extends to co-investigating project grants and studentships focused on improving preclinical cancer pharmacology methodology from a 3Rs standpoint.

His research team includes Patricia Cooper (Experimental Officer), Gary Lawson (Research Technician), and Marcella Sini (YCR Programme Grant Postdoctoral Researcher), working collaboratively with colleagues including L Patterson, P Loadman, R Falconer, and K Pors.
