About
Steven S.C. Chuang is Professor in the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron, where he founded the FirstEnergy Advanced Energy Research Center. His research develops materials and processes for clean energy, including CO2 capture sorbents, solid oxide fuel cells, and photocatalytic systems using in situ infrared spectroscopy to probe reaction mechanisms.
Current projects include polymeric membranes for batteries, CO2-responsive polymers, and polymer/TiO2 hybrid catalysts. His group synthesizes functional materials while investigating surface reactions and interfacial phenomena through advanced spectroscopic techniques.
Honors include the University's Outstanding Researcher Award and Distinguished Alumni recognition from Taipei Tech. Industrial collaborations focus on scaling carbon capture technologies and fuel cell stack manufacturing.
