Steven Ruszczycky is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo. His research focuses on LGBTQ+ literature and media, pornography studies, and genre analysis. He holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from the University at Buffalo SUNY (2014), an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Auckland, New Zealand (2005), and a B.A. in English and Psychology from UC Santa Barbara (2003).
His major publications include Vulgar Genres: Gay Pornographic Writing and Contemporary Fiction (University of Chicago Press, 2021) and a co-edited volume Porn Archives (Duke University Press, 2014). He actively contributes to the Central Coast Queer Archive Project, a community-based digital archive initiative.
Ruszczycky teaches courses such as ENGL 382 (LGBT Literature and Media) and ENGL 449 (special topics in American literature focusing on authors like Samuel R. Delany and themes like pornography). He is a member of the Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA).
