Steven Naoum

Dr. Steven Naoum is a Senior Lecturer in Orthodontics at the University of Western Australia (UWA) Dental School, affiliated with the Oral Developmental and Behavioural Sciences department. He holds dual roles as a registered Specialist Orthodontist in clinical practice and academia. His academic journey includes a BDSc from UWA (2001), a PhD in Dental Materials at the University of Sydney (2008–2014), and a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics from UWA (2016). He previously served as Oral Health Lead at Sydney’s Poche Centre for Indigenous Health.

His research focuses on orthodontic materials, Indigenous oral health, and surgical advancements. Key areas include fluoride-releasing resin composites, orthognathic surgery outcomes, and functional appliances for malocclusion. He actively participates in initiatives like dental volunteering in remote Aboriginal communities through grants such as the CD Syd Dobbin AM Research Grant.

Dr. Naoum contributes to professional bodies like the Australian Society of Orthodontists, serving on national committees. His publications (32+ articles) emphasize practical clinical applications and evidence-based practices. He is also an investigator on grants addressing Indigenous oral healthcare access.
