Steven Cassedy is a Professor of Slavic and Comparative Literature at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), affiliated with the School of Arts and Humanities. He also serves as Associate Dean of the Graduate Division and Section Head of Russian Literature. Cassedy holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (1979) and has been at UCSD since 1980. His research focuses on 19th- and 20th-century Russian, French, German, and Yiddish literature, early 20th-century literary theory, Russian Jewish intellectual history, and Jewish immigration to America.
He teaches courses in Russian literature, Western European literatures, and American-Jewish cultural history. His academic leadership includes directing Eleanor Roosevelt College’s Making of the Modern World program, a core sequence in world civilization. Cassedy’s publications include critical editions of literary works and monographs on literary theory and Jewish intellectual migration.
