Steven Brown is a Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Oregon, affiliated with the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages. His research spans posthumanism, horror cinema, Surrealist film, sound design, Japanese popular culture, and critical theory. He has authored and edited influential books on Japanese visual culture, including Japanese Horror and the Transnational Cinema of Sensations and Cinema Anime.

He has also contributed to interdisciplinary dialogues on Nietzsche, digital humanities, and Japanese performance history.
