Stephen Wiley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at North Carolina State University. He holds a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology from Swarthmore College (1986), an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin (1993), and a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (1999). His research focuses on globalization’s impact on subjectivity, agency, and place perception, with a regional specialization in Latin America. Wiley employs ethnography to investigate how transnational flows reshape cultural and social dynamics, particularly in Chile. He served as a Fulbright Scholar at the Universidad de Concepción (2008) and conducted long-term fieldwork tracking globalization’s effects on Chilean communities.
