Stephen Tytko

Stephen Tytko is an Associate Professor at Baldwin Wallace University, where he has served on the faculty since 1993. He earned his Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from Northwestern University under the supervision of Dr. Anthony G.M. Barrett.

Dr. Tytko's research program focuses on asymmetric synthetic methodology with applications to natural products. Current projects investigate chiral amine functionalized ionic liquids, chiral enamines, and imines as tools for enantioselective synthesis, aiming to develop novel routes to complex organic molecules. His work bridges fundamental organic chemistry with practical applications in molecular design.

Prior to his appointment at Baldwin Wallace, he participated in summer research fellowships at NASA Lewis Research Center, the Ohio Aerospace Institute, and the Liquid Crystal Institute, gaining cross-disciplinary experience in aerospace and materials science.

He teaches core chemistry courses including general chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, and organic spectroscopy. His mentorship has prepared numerous students for successful careers in graduate programs, medical and professional schools, and the chemical industry, reflecting his commitment to undergraduate education and research training.
