Stephen Syrett is Professor of Local Economic Development and Deputy Dean for Research & Knowledge Exchange at Middlesex University's Faculty of Business and Law. His research examines economic development in urban and deprived areas.

Research focuses on:

• Urban governance
• Informal economies

Syrett has directed the Centre for Enterprise and Economic Development Research and led impactful research on diaspora entrepreneurship and local economic governance. His work informs regional development policies across Europe.
