Stephen Phelps is a Professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge, holding the Kennedy Professor of Latin chair since 2007. He was previously a Professor of Classics (2001-2007) and Reader in Classics (1998-2001) at the University of Reading. His academic career also includes a fellowship and directorship of studies in Classics at Emmanuel College, Cambridge (1987-1998). A member of the Academy of Europe since 2012, his research focuses on Latin literature, Roman history, the topography of pre-Roman Italy, and textual traditions of Latin authors.
