About
Stephen Miller is Professor and Department Chair of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Swarthmore College. His research investigates bacterial communication systems, particularly quorum sensing mechanisms and autoinducer signal processing.
Research Focus:
- Molecular mechanisms of bacterial quorum sensing
- Structure-function studies of autoinducer receptors
- Enzymatic processing of signaling molecules
- Interspecies bacterial communication
Teaching: Leads courses across biochemical curriculum including Biological Chemistry, Experimental Biochemistry, and specialized topics courses. Developed educational protocols like the sperm whale myoglobin expression/purification exercise for laboratory instruction.
Leadership: Currently chairs the Chemistry & Biochemistry department and contributes to college-wide data governance initiatives.
