Stephen Katz

Stephen Katz is a Professor in the Core Faculty at Indiana University's Hamilton Lugar School, Bloomington. He specializes in Hebrew literature, particularly Modern Hebrew Literature, Jewish Studies, and the works of S.Y. Agnon. His research explores themes such as cultural identity, biblical influences, and postcolonial narratives in Hebrew literary traditions.

His teaching includes courses on Advanced Hebrew, Modern Hebrew Literature in translation, and the Kibbutz in Fact and Fiction. His scholarly publications analyze topics ranging from Holocaust poetry to intercultural representation in American Hebrew literature. Notable works include Red, Black, and Jew: New Frontiers in Hebrew Literature (2009) and The Centrifugal Novel: S.Y. Agnon's Poetics of Narrative (1999).
