Stephen Harold Scott

Stephen Harold Scott is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences and Department of Medicine at Queen's University, with cross-appointments at the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME) and Centre for Neuroscience Studies. He is the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Chair in Neurosciences and founder of Kinarm (BKIN Technologies).

Dr. Scott's research examines neural control of limb movement through three labs:

• Non-human Primate Motor Neurophysiology (Botterell Hall)
• Human Motor Learning (Kingston General Hospital)
• Neurological Impairment Quantification (St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital)

His work combines optimal feedback control theory with robotic assessment tools like the KINARM™ to study sensorimotor integration, post-stroke recovery, and cognitive-motor interactions.

Scientific Recognition:

• 2012 Barbara Turnbull Award for Spinal Cord Injury Research
• 2002 Mihran and Mary Basmajian Award
• Elected Fellow, Royal Society of Canada (2022)

His research has been funded by CIHR, NSERC, and GSK. Collaborations span cardiology, neurology, mechanical engineering, and epidemiology, with labs operating across four Kingston facilities including Hotel Dieu Hospital and Providence Care Hospital.
