Dr. Michel Melanson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University with a cross-appointment in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He has been part of the faculty since 1998 and served as Neurology Residency Training Director from 2001 to 2010. Currently, he directs the EMG laboratories at Kingston General and Hotel Dieu Hospitals, evaluating patients with neuromuscular disorders, and co-directs the Adult Neuromuscular Clinic at St-Mary’s of the Lake Hospital. His research focuses on neuromuscular diseases, including ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, and Muscular Dystrophies, with collaborations at the Queen’s Center for Neurosciences. He leads clinical trials in ALS and Inflammatory Neuropathies and participates in national/international neuromuscular disease registries.
Research interests span cellular neuroscience, autonomic and central nervous system disorders, radiology, and musculoskeletal health. He collaborates with translational medicine initiatives through the Queen’s Center for Neurosciences and the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME).
Professional roles include division chair and leadership in clinical and academic neurology programs. His work integrates clinical practice, research, and education in neuromuscular medicine.
