Stephen F. Pires is a Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida International University's Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs. He holds a PhD in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University.
His research examines wildlife crime using environmental criminology frameworks, syndicated loan markets, and spatial analysis of illicit activities. Notable projects include studies on parrot trafficking networks, timber theft patterns, and SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) regulations.
Publications span conservation criminology, banking relationships in loan syndication, and crime prevention methodologies. He received the FMA Best Paper Award in 2014 for work on bank capital and lending.
