Stephen A. Paparo is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and conductor of the University Chorale. He holds degrees from Michigan State University (PhD), Syracuse University (MM), and Ithaca College (BM), and is a certified Feldenkrais Method® practitioner with ten years of public school teaching experience.
Research Interests: Focuses on applying somatic education to vocal pedagogy, non-traditional ensembles including contemporary a cappella and virtual choirs, and LGBTQ+ perspectives in music education. His work explores community building through innovative choral formats and embodied learning approaches.
Creative Scholarship: Compositions for beginning choirs are published by Alfred Music, and peer-reviewed research appears in leading music education journals.
