Stephanie Hartle

Stephanie Hartle is a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, leading the BA (Hons) Photography course and collaborating on partnerships with The Sheffield College and Trafford College Group. Her teaching focuses on contemporary photographic practices and their interdisciplinary connections. Her research explores the intersection of aesthetics and politics, particularly through re-enactment strategies in art, including analyses of Jeremy Deller’s work and Walter Benjamin’s 'left-wing melancholy.' She co-edited the 2022 book Visual Activism in the 21st Century, emphasizing the role of visual culture in activism. Hartle is affiliated with the Art Design and Media Research Centre and the Culture and Creativity Research Institute, contributing to interdisciplinary studies in visual culture and ecological entanglements.
