Stephanie Gangemi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), College of Public Service. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado with over 14 years of combined social work practice and academic teaching experience. Her expertise spans correctional mental health, psychodynamic practice, and forensic social work.
Education: Ph.D. in Social Work (Smith College, 2021), Master of Social Work (Columbia University, 2008), Bachelor of Arts (Wagner College, 2006).
Research & Practice: Focuses on the training and experiences of correctional healthcare workers, addressing severe mental illness among incarcerated individuals, personality disorders, suicide prevention, and trauma in correctional staff. She has practiced at Riker's Island and served as Director of Mental Health at El Paso County Jail.
Awards: Recognized as a Daniel’s Ethics Fellow (2021) for advancing ethics training in mental health via simulation-based learning and recipient of the Seidenberg Paper Prize (2018) for innovative solutions to inmate-guard tensions.
