About
Dr. Stephane Angers is a Professor at the University of Toronto, holding appointments in the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy (Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences) and the Department of Biochemistry. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of Wnt and Hedgehog signaling pathways, particularly their roles in embryonic development, adult tissue homeostasis, and their dysregulation in cancer.
- Education: Ph.D. from Université de Montréal (2002), supervised by Dr. Michel Bouvier.
- Postdoctoral Training: Howard Hughes Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Washington (2002-2006), working with Dr. Randall T. Moon.
- Key Contributions: Developed light energy transfer methodologies for studying protein-protein interactions, identified novel Wnt pathway components and E3 ubiquitin ligases, pioneered synthetic antibodies targeting Wnt receptors, and co-founded biotech companies ModMab Therapeutics and AntlerA Therapeutics.
His integrative approach combines proteomic and genomic tools, including genome-wide CRISPR screens developed with Dr. Jason Moffat, to uncover therapeutic vulnerabilities in developmental signaling pathways. He has taught courses on Eukaryotic Signaling, Advances in Precision Medicine, and Molecular Pharmacology.
