About
Stephan Graham is the Welton Joseph and Maud L'Anphere Crook Professor of Applied Earth Sciences at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Geophysics and Energy Science Engineering. He leads the Basin Processes and Subsurface Modeling Group.
Research focuses on sedimentary basin evolution, tectonics, and resource evaluation across global systems including Patagonia, Gulf of Mexico, and North China. His 15 most recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate methodologies integrating field geology, geochronology, seismic interpretation, and machine learning to analyze:
- Basin-scale sedimentation patterns
- Tectonic-climate interactions
- Resource potential of gas hydrates
- Deep-sea sedimentation dynamics
- Provenance analysis via detrital zircon
