Associate Professor · Analytical Chemistry
University of California, Los AngelesAbout
Steffen Lindert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Ohio State University, with a research focus on computational biology, structural biology, and biophysics. He will relocate his research group to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in July 2025.
- M.Sc. in Physics from University of Leipzig (2006)
- Ph.D. in Chemical and Physical Biology (Molecular Biophysics track) from Vanderbilt University (2011), co-advised by Prof. Jens Meiler and Prof. Phoebe Stewart
Dr. Lindert’s research develops computational techniques to model biological systems, aiming to understand biomolecular processes, predict protein structures with sparse data, and enable drug discovery. His work integrates machine learning, physics-based and knowledge-based methods, bridging biochemistry, physical chemistry, and biophysics.
Scientific awards and fellowships include:
- 2024 OSU College of Arts and Sciences Mid-Career Faculty Excellence Award
- 2023 Scarlet and Gray Associate Professor Award
- 2020 Sloan Research Fellowship
- 2019 ACS OpenEye Outstanding Junior Faculty Award in Computational Chemistry
- 2019 Elizabeth L. Gross Faculty Excellence Award
- 2018 NSF CAREER Award
- 2013 Protein Society Finn Wold Award
- 2012 OpenMM Visiting Fellow Scholarship
- 2012 American Heart Association Post-Doctoral Fellowship
- 2012 Center for Theoretical Biological Physics Post-Doctoral Fellowship
His lab will transition to UCLA in 2025, and prospective graduate students are encouraged to apply to the UCLA Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate programs.
