Stefan Saretz

Dr. Stefan Saretz is a Researcher in the Department of Cell Toxicology at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig. He joined UFZ in October 2024, contributing to the CoModHaz project, focusing on modernizing chemical risk assessment through the development of analytical methods for hydrophobic compounds and elucidating physicochemical processes. Previously, he worked as a medicinal chemist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI) in Halle and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig, designing antibiotic and antiviral drug candidates. He also co-founded Mannin GmbH, where he advanced lab infrastructure and drug synthesis. His PhD in Chemistry, completed under Prof. Evamarie Hey-Hawkins, centered on carbaboranes for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) cancer treatment, resulting in patents through industry collaboration.
