Stanislav Buban

Stanislav Buban is an Associate Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava (VŠVU), specializing in drawing and painting instruction. Born on May 5, 1961 in Sečovce, he studied at the Academy from 1980 to 1986 in the Department of Monumental Painting under doc. J. Kresila and prof. E. Lehotská. He has been teaching at VŠVU since 1995 and was appointed Associate Professor in 2002 following his habilitation at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.

His research and artistic practice focuses on painting, drawing, color theory, monumental painting, and contemporary Slovak art. Buban's work spans postmodern, abstract, and realistic painting styles, with notable series including 'Repentance,' 'Intimacies,' 'Windows,' 'Banal Stories,' and 'Nude Drawings.' His artistic approach demonstrates deep engagement with emotional expression, narrative composition, and technical mastery of visual media.

Buban's extensive exhibition history shows his work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, France, the United States, and other countries. His works are represented in major public and private collections throughout Slovakia. Notable exhibitions include 'Stano Bubán – Repentance and Other Plays' at the Slovak National Theatre (2011), 'Together in a Journey' with Nena Thayer at the Koloman Sokol Gallery in Washington (2007), and participation in international biennials and triennials.
