Dr. Stan Harstine is an internationally recognized scholar and teacher at Friends University since 2002, specializing in Johannine literature. He has received the W.A. Young Award for Excellence in Teaching and presents research at international conferences including Vienna (2014), Helsinki (2018), Salzburg (2022), Pretoria (2023), and Amsterdam (2024).
He earned his B.S. from Kansas State University, M.Div. from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. from Baylor University. His research focuses on the Gospel and Letters of John, exploring themes such as Sabbath, feasts, food, wells, thirst, Jerusalem, and love through detailed biblical analysis connecting Old and New Testament contexts.
Dr. Harstine chairs the Johannine Literature section for the International Meeting of the Society for Biblical Literature and serves as editor for the Johannine Literature section of Religious Studies Review journal. Previously (2017-2023), he was area editor for New Testament materials.
