Dr Stacey McMullen is a Senior Lecturer and Indigenous Scholar at the University of Newcastle, affiliated with the School of Psychological Sciences under the College of Engineering, Science and Environment. As a proud Aboriginal woman and Kooma descendant, her work centers on culturally responsive clinical psychology for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with expertise in trauma, perinatal mental health, and social and emotional wellbeing.
- Clinical Experience: 20+ years in government, NGO, and Aboriginal-led services (e.g., Links Trauma Healing Service, Awabakal Medical Service).
- Teaching: Leads Indigenisation of psychology curricula across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
- Research: Focuses on culturally led perinatal trauma interventions and police interactions with Indigenous communities.
Her recent ADVANCE Equity in Research Fellowship (2025) supports work to improve birth outcomes and maternal wellbeing. She has received multiple awards, including the 2023 Staff Excellence Award (University of Newcastle) and 2007 Ross Gribble Prize in Clinical Psychology.
