Her teaching and research examine the cultural and political dimensions of health, contagion, and infectious diseases, with a particular focus on colonial and contemporary India.
Prasad's work investigates how concepts of hygiene and contagion have been historically constructed and politicized. Her first book, 'Cultural Politics of Hygiene in India, 1890-1940: Contagions of Feelings', traces genealogies of contagion in colonial India, analyzing the complex relationships between microbial and affective dimensions of contagion.
Her current research project examines the history and contemporary politics of tuberculosis and care work in India. Additional scholarly interests include critical feminist pedagogy and the intersections of gender, health, and globalization. Prasad received the University of Missouri Diversity Faculty Achievement Award in 2014 for her contributions to campus diversity and inclusion.
