Dr. Sotirios Karampampas is a Lecturer in the Department of Government at the University of Essex (since October 2023). He concurrently serves as a Visiting Professor at the European Law and Governance School of the European Public Law Center. His academic journey includes roles as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Panteion University (2022–2023), Postdoctoral Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences (2021–2022), and Associate Lecturer at London Metropolitan University (2021–2022).
Dr. Karampampas holds a PhD in Politics from the University of Sheffield (2018), an MA in International Politics and Security Studies from the University of Bradford (2013), and a BA in Political Science from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2010). His research focuses on political violence, social movements, and the socio-political impacts of economic crises, with a regional emphasis on Greece and Europe. His work examines topics such as revolutionary terrorism, austerity-driven activism, and the interplay between discourse and security narratives.
His publications analyze crises in Europe, including the Greek economic crisis, and explore themes like deprivation-driven protest, radical left movements, and geopolitical dynamics in Greco-Russian relations. He has contributed to understanding how economic crises reshape political landscapes and influence militant dissidence. His research also extends to media framing of neoliberal policies and the construction of security discourses.
Dr. Karampampas teaches modules related to political theory, international relations, and crisis politics. His academic support hours are held weekly at the Colchester Campus, with additional availability by appointment.
