Smadar Gabrieli is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Humanities, University of Western Australia. Her research focuses on Cypriot archaeology in Late Antiquity and the Medieval Period, particularly handmade ceramic industries of the Mamluk Period in Israel and the study of foodways through material culture. She co-directs the Paphos Theatre Excavation and leads the Life at the Furnace project exploring sustainability through archaeological resource use.
Education: PhD in Archaeology (2006) from the University of Sydney, focusing on domestic wares of Paphos, Cyprus. Holds external positions including Marie-Curie Fellow (University of Copenhagen, 2016-2018) and Lady Davis Post-Doctoral Fellow (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 2009-2011).
Research Interests: Integrates archaeological data with sustainability frameworks, examining human-environment interactions over millennia. Explores how ceramic production and consumption patterns reflect socio-economic organization and cultural identity.
