Makbule Ekici Bulut is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Science and Letters, Gaziantep University, Turkey. Specializing in Classical Archaeology, her research focuses on Numismatics, Greek and Roman Period studies, and Rural Settlement Systems in Southeastern Anatolia.
- PhD (2013) and MA (2004) in Classical Archaeology from Selçuk University
- Bachelor’s degree (2001) in Archaeology from Selçuk University
Her scholarly work examines ancient ceramic assemblages, metal artifacts, and coinage systems in Caria and Southeastern Anatolia, with particular attention to Oğuzeli surface surveys, Yenice Höyük excavations, and Lagina sacred site research. Key projects include leading the Gaziantep Archaeological Surface Research Laboratory and curating Karaman Museum’s small finds catalog.
She has co-authored studies on Mamluk-era water infrastructure (2024), Giresun island excavations (2017), and bronze clothing appliqués (2011). Her 2011–2013 work on Lagina and Carian city coins remains a seminal contribution to numismatic research.
- Supervised 13 Master’s theses (2015–2025) on topics including Byzantine coins, Gaziantep’s culinary culture, and Urartian metal artifacts
- Contributed to international symposia on Olive oil production (Bodrum, 2022) and Mediterranean settlement patterns (Catania, 2011)
As Department Chair (2016–2018), she coordinated fieldwork initiatives and participated in archaeological campaigns across Turkey, including projects with the University of Chicago and European Union-funded design archiving (2017).
