Panagiotis Siozos is a Research Fellow at IESL-FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas), specializing in laser-based analytical methodologies for Cultural Heritage materials. He holds a PhD in Molecular Physics (2007) and a BSc in Physics (1999) from the University of Ioannina, Greece. His research focuses on developing portable spectroscopic instruments such as LIBS, Raman, and Diffuse Reflectance systems for non-invasive material analysis. Key projects include the LMNT II portable laser device for rapid elemental identification, which reached the final stage of the 'Greece Innovates' competition in 2013.
His work spans archaeological materials analysis, environmental research, and material science, with contributions in elemental imaging of marine shells, discrimination of human bones, and biodeteriogens assessment. He has led or contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications and collaborates with international teams on projects like LIBS regression contests and atmospheric CO₂/CH₄ monitoring.
Dr. Siozos has also developed methodologies for laser cleaning efficacy assessment and photoacoustic imaging of hidden layers in artworks. His lab at IESL-FORTH emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining laser physics with heritage conservation challenges.
