Simone Maier

Simone Maier is an Associate Lecturer at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London Metropolitan University. She holds a BA in English and Visual Performing Arts (Monash University, 2000), a BA Fine Arts (Hons) (2018), and a PGCert (2019) which granted her Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). She is currently pursuing an MA in Art Education at UCL's Institute of Education. Her teaching emphasizes social constructivist pedagogy, and her creative practice explores sculpture with themes bridging poetry and visual art.

Research interests include innovative teaching methodologies in art education, collaboration in foundational courses, and the intersection of art and social justice. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, focusing on topics like student experience in 21st-century universities and pedagogical strategies for diverse learner needs. She leads the Critical Creative Practice module and tutors in art studio courses.

Publications highlight her contributions to understanding 'supercomplexity' in student lives, global-local educational challenges, and fostering humane relationships in teaching. Awards include the FHEA, recognizing her commitment to higher education innovation.

Simone’s professional journey spans over a decade in IT prior to academia, enriching her interdisciplinary perspective. Current academic activities include advancing her MA research and contributing to foundational art education programs at London Met.
