Dr. Simon Smith AM FRHSV is an Adjunct Professor at the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre, Victoria University. His pioneering work includes founding Australia's first community legal center and establishing clinical legal education. His research focuses on Australian legal history, insurance history, and constitutional development.
Research interests span legal history methodologies, colonial justice systems, professional ethics in law, and the evolution of dispute resolution mechanisms. His work demonstrates how legal institutions reflect societal values through historical transitions.
Honored as Member of the Order of Australia (2019) for significant contributions to law, consumer affairs, and higher education. He curated the nationally significant Suncorp Insurance Archive now held by the State Library of Victoria.
