Simon Floodgate

Simon Floodgate is a Lecturer at the University of Reading, specializing in Drama and Theatre Studies. He serves as Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes, Programme Director for the MA in Education, and is a member of the Climate and Sustainability Education Steering Committee.

• Current PhD and EdD supervision in Drama-in-Education, Applied Theatre, and Disability Theatre
• External Examiner for PGCE Secondary Visual & Performing Arts at the University of Sussex (2024-27)
• Member of SCITED (Standing Committee in Teacher Education in Drama) and National Drama’s editorial board
• Consultant for Rank & File Theatre, focusing on marginalized communities

His research interests span Drama in Education, Theatre of the Oppressed, Playback Theatre, and inclusive practices in Deaf/Hearing integrated theatre. He supervises postgraduate research on topics related to social inclusion and multiculturalism in educational contexts. Floodgate also contributes to education for sustainable development initiatives and consults on theatre projects involving refugees, abuse survivors, and people with disabilities.
