Simon Burris is a Senior Lecturer in Classics at Baylor University’s College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Classical Literature and Philology from Cornell University (2004) and a B.A. in Classics with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin (1992). His research focuses on Archaic Greek poetry, particularly Sappho and Pindar, and papyrology. He is a Faculty Fellow in Ancient Greek Literary Papyri at the Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion and a Scholar-Mentor for the Green Scholars Initiative, leading undergraduate research on papyri from the Green Collection.
His work includes textual analysis of Sappho’s fragments, studies on Pindar’s odes, and contributions to Greco-Roman religious and literary contexts. Dr. Burris has published in journals like Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigrafik and Classical Review, and presents frequently at conferences such as the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS). His research bridges classical philology, papyrology, and the intersection of ancient texts with modern pedagogy.
