Simo Parpola is a renowned academic in Assyriology, holding professorial positions at institutions such as the University of Helsinki (since 1978) and the University of Chicago (1977–1979). He served as Director of the State Archives of Assyria Centre of Excellence (1997–2001) and led the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus Project (1986–1995).
