Silvia De Conca

Silvia De Conca is an Assistant Professor in Law & Tech at the Faculty of Law of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Transnational Legal Studies department. She holds positions at the Amsterdam Law and Technology Institute (ALTI), Network Institute, Kooijmans Institute, and co-chairs the Human Rights in the Digital Age group at the NNHRR (Asser Institute). Her work focuses on regulating human-machine interaction effects through EU law frameworks.

Education:

• LL.B./LL.M. in Law (Roma Tre University, Italy)

Research Interests: Law of AI/robotics, privacy in smart environments, GDPR compliance, deceptive design in digital products, and cross-disciplinary empirical legal methods. Current projects explore manipulative design in user interfaces and smart city privacy challenges.

Awards: Best Paper Award (IFIP Smart Home Summer School, 2017). Active in academic outreach through editorial roles (European Journal of Law and Technology) and keynote presentations on AI regulation and digital privacy.

Teaching: Courses include Technology Law, Data Analytics & Privacy, and Ethics of AI. Engaged in knowledge transfer via the Network Institute's Outreach&Transfer team.
