About
Siavash Amon, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at Le Moyne College. His research focuses on the intersection of gut microbiome, neuroscience, genetics, and toxicology, using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. He investigates how environmental factors like pharmaceuticals and gut microbiota influence health and development, with particular interest in neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s and ALS.
- Education: B.Sc. Microbiology (University of Waterloo), M.Sc. & Ph.D. Neuroscience and Molecular Biology (McMaster University)
Research areas include microbiome dynamics, drug toxicity on nervous systems, and interdisciplinary approaches combining molecular biology, neuroscience, and genetics. His lab provides training in these disciplines to students.
Key awards include the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2018-2019). Current projects explore microbiome-based therapies for neurological disorders and the toxicological effects of pharmaceuticals.
