Si Transken

Dr. Si Transken is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), Prince George campus. She holds a PhD and MA from the University of Toronto, and a BA Honours and BSW from Laurentian University. Her work focuses on feminist social work, anti-racism, expressive arts therapy, and issues related to violence against women. She teaches courses in social work, gender studies, and creative research methods. Her private practice, Trans/Formative Services, supports women navigating systemic oppressions.

Research Interests: Dr. Transken’s expertise spans cultural studies, creative writing, and social justice advocacy. She emphasizes arts-based research and autoethnography as tools for empowerment. Her community work includes organizing Jezebel’s Jam, a fundraiser supporting local women’s organizations, and collaborating with the Northern Women’s Centre.

Community Engagement: She is actively involved in social justice initiatives, including anti-homelessness advocacy and youth art workshops through UNBC’s Youth Writing Camp. Her private practice integrates therapeutic approaches to address trauma and systemic inequalities.
