Dr. Shilyh Warren serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Professor of Visual and Performing Arts & Film Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology. She holds a Ph.D. in Literature from Duke University (2010), two Master's degrees in Literature and Comparative Literature from Duke and Dartmouth Colleges, and a B.A. in Women's Studies from Dartmouth (1996).
Her research focuses on intersections of film history, feminist theory, documentary practices, and racial politics. Notable works include Subject to Reality: Women and Documentary (2019), which examines women's nonfiction filmmaking across eras. Courses taught include 'Ethics of Documentary,' 'Gender, Race and the Movies,' and 'Latin American Film.'
Her articles explore topics like feminist documentary ethics, transnational cinema, and representation politics. She advises doctoral students on projects involving identity politics, critical race studies, and moving image media. Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Warren also contributes to academic discourse through peer-reviewed journals such as Signs and Camera Obscura.
