Shelley Blane serves as a Senior Lecturer and Course Lead for both BSc Radiography courses at Health Sciences University within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. With over 27 years of clinical and academic experience in radiotherapy, she brings extensive expertise to her educational and leadership roles at the institution.
Her educational background includes:
- BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography (1995)
- MSc in Radiation Physics (2002)
Shelley specializes in advanced radiotherapy planning techniques that maximize tumor radiation doses while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. She has been instrumental in clinical research that improved radiotherapy treatments across the UK healthcare system. Beyond her technical expertise, she is deeply committed to promoting radiotherapy as a career path and supporting science education in schools and colleges throughout the South coast region.
As Course Lead for the BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology) degree program launched in September 2020, Shelley manages daily operations of the program and oversees academic units in both Radiotherapy and Diagnostic degrees. She also conducts essential Radiation Protection training for healthcare professionals working with ionizing radiation across multiple healthcare settings.

Shelley maintains active professional engagement through multiple registrations and memberships including HCPC registration as both a Clinical Scientist and Therapeutic Radiographer, membership in the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), Chartered Scientist status, and dual ambassador roles as both a STEM ambassador and Academic ambassador for IPEM. Her clinical career specialization in treatment planning has directly informed her academic approach to developing the next generation of radiotherapy professionals.
