Shekila Melchior

Dr. Shekila Melchior is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at George Mason University's College of Education and Human Development. She serves as Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, focusing on institutional equity initiatives. Her work bridges academic roles with leadership in fostering inclusive educational environments.

Education: PhD in Counseling from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).

Research Focus:

• Social Justice Identity Development
• Equity strategies for undocumented student populations
• Counselor professional identity formation
• Mental health perspectives on human trafficking

Teaching: Teaches courses like Advanced Human Growth and Development, Counseling Theories, and Multicultural Counseling. Current practicum supervision includes Mental Health Counseling (EDCD 750). Maintains an active role in training future counselors through internship supervision.
