Sheila Addison

Dr. Sheila Addison, Core Faculty in Couple & Family Therapy at Antioch University Seattle, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Certified Gottman Method Therapist. With a PhD and MA in Marriage & Family Therapy from Syracuse University and a background in Theatre from the University of Colorado and Indiana State University, she specializes in affirmative therapy for marginalized groups, including LGBTQ+ communities, cross-cultural couples, and consensually non-monogamous relationships. Her work emphasizes dismantling fatphobia, promoting Health at Every Size (HAES), and advancing cultural competency in mental health.

Dr. Addison’s research focuses on intersectional approaches to couple therapy, ethical frameworks for LGBTQ+ clients, and integrating Fat Studies into clinical training. Her publications address topics like therapeutic practices for non-monogamous relationships, cultural humility in mental health, and the impact of diet culture on therapy. She has presented extensively at conferences including AAMFT, ACA, and APA.

As Executive Director of Margin to Center Consulting, she trains post-graduation interns and advocates for wellness in DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) initiatives. She co-founded TransLifeline, a crisis hotline for transgender and non-binary individuals, and has taught Ally Skills Workshops at institutions like Google and the University of Toronto. Her clinical work bridges social justice, therapeutic ethics, and systemic approaches to relationships.
