Shea Kerkhoff

Shea Kerkhoff is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educator Preparation and Leadership at the University of Missouri-St. Louis’ College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from North Carolina State University (2013-2016), an MEd in International Education Policy and Management from Vanderbilt University (2005-2007), and a BS in English Education from Ball State University (1997-2001). Her research focuses on global teacher education, adolescent literacy, and mixed-methods inquiry, emphasizing critical and digital literacies in diverse educational contexts.

Dr. Kerkhoff’s work explores how educators can integrate global competencies and cosmopolitan frameworks into curricula, particularly through initiatives like the Global Read Aloud and literacy action planning. She co-leads the Missouri Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant, supporting literacy reforms in 80 Missouri schools. Her research spans international case studies in Kenya and collaborative educator projects addressing post-pandemic challenges.
